East Bay in Wollochet

The East side of Wollochet Bay is a rare gem and has some of the areas finest waterfront properties with the bonus of easy access to the large Uptown retail district, Highway 16, and charming Downtown Gig Harbor.

This has long made East Bay Drive one of the most coveted areas to have a home that is a peaceful getaway in nature, minus long drives to get to amenities. East Bay Drive is one of the most established areas of greater Gig Harbor outside of the historic downtown and Point Fosdick. Despite residential development it still has quiet forested roads and even some farm properties tucked away off the main drive.

Attractions

The biggest attraction here is of course the beauty of the Pacific Northwest and Wollochet Bay itself, but there is also the nearby Artondale Golf Course and ease of access to schools. Artondale Elementary is just 5 minutes away and Goodman Middle School and Lighthouse Christian are less than 10 minutes.

The nearby Uptown retail district offers all kinds of attractions from dining and big box shopping to family activities at Oceans 5 and movies at the luxury Galaxy Theatre. The ease of access to downtown Gig Harbor is also a big attraction with quaint local shops and food along with seasonal events and farmer’s markets. It is one of the top boating and tourist destinations in Puget Sound.

The Tacoma Narrows airport has events like car shows and a popular restaurant called The Hub, where you can sit inside or out and enjoy watching the sunset and small planes taking off and landing.

In the future we look forward to the recreational community center being planned by PenMet Parks just east of Highway 16.

Outdoor Activities

Living on Wollochet Bay is a boater’s paradise. It is ideal for Wakeboarding, fishing, and kayaking or just sitting on the deck and watching the sunset over Mt. Rainier. There is a nearby public boat launch and many properties offer their own beach access and docks. The head of the bay is narrower and shallow at times which means it is ideal for quiet paddle boarding or non-motorized water activities.

For other outdoor options, there are two golf courses within 10 minutes of East Bay, Artondale, and Madrona Links. There are also a number of parks with easy access including, The Tacoma Narrows Park right under the twin Narrows bridges, great for beach combing and fishing, and the Kenneth Leo Marvin Veterans Memorial Park with a dog park and playground.

Shopping

East Bay is a residential district but has easy access to Uptown and Olympic Village where you will find big box shopping with stores like Ulta, Ross and J.Jill, just to name a few. You can also get practical items at the large and locally owned Ace Hardware and the Goodwill.

There are numerous grocery options with a very large Fred Meyer, upscale Metropolitan Market and local Harbor Greens.

In less than 10 minutes you can get to downtown Gig Harbor with local small businesses offering experience shopping.

If any of these don’t meet your needs it is only a 15 min drive to Gig Harbor North that offers Costco, Home Depot and Target and other shopping options.
