Artondale in Gig Harbor
Artondale is a large district West of Highway 16 and Gig Harbor City Center. it consists of a number of different neighborhoods and still has many areas with a rural feel. This diverse area really highlights the best of the Pacific Northwest.
Artondale is named after Artondale creek, a salmon habitat that feeds into nearby Wollochet Bay. Some of the areas it incorporates are Horsehead Bay, Kopachuck and one of the oldest settlements, dating back to the 1870’s, Arletta, to name a few. Each of these has it’s own personality and amenities so this is a great district to heavily explore and find a large variety of single-family properties, many with wooded lots, waterfront or water access, and lots of privacy.

Location
This area extends to the West of Highway 16 and the Uptown District, all the way to Kopachuck State Park and Carr Inlet. To the North of Artondale is Rosedale and to the South is Cromwell and Fox Island. It is one of the largest districts in Gig Harbor.
Commutes to Gig Harbor and the Narrows Bridge and areas beyond varying greatly depending on what part of Artondale you start in. Many areas do not have direct access because of the way that this rural area developed around winding back roads.
For some closer in areas, a trip to the charming, historic Gig Harbor City Center may only be 10 minutes while for others it could be 20 minutes. The same can be said for accessing the more modern retail districts of Gig Harbor North and Uptown.
Tacoma can be accessed by most areas in 15-25 minutes. Without traffic you can get to Seattle in about an hour, but during peak traffic times that could nearly double.

Outdoor Activities
You will find many properties with outdoor living spaces and some with acreage for your outdoor activities. Towards Kopachuck and a few other areas you will find waterfront properties, some with beach access and many with stellar views for sitting on the deck and watching the sunset.
Kopachuck State Park is a great place for swimming and fishing and features many beautiful hiking trails.
The Gig Harbor Golf course is a pleasant little course and being situated on a hillside, it offers panoramic views of Artondale and peaceful wooded surroundings. A few miles to the East is the full size Madrona Golf Course.
Not far from this area you can access the Cushman Trail, a 6.2 mile walking and bike trail with various grades, onsite parking, restrooms and seating along the way. Gig Harbor’s downtown offers other options for walking and running (both very popular in the Harbor) and also Kayak rentals and other water activities along with numerous city parks.

Attractions
Though it covers a large area, the main attractions here are experiencing nature in the Pacific Northwest and being away from the big city. This area boasts Kopachuck State Park, a spacious park with great beaches right on Carr Inlet and across from Cutts Island State Park.
Another attraction of the area is the Gig Harbor Golf course, a small 9 hole course with an event space and classes for all ages.
Some other attractions besides the woods and beautiful waterfront areas, are Sylvia Lake, numerous creeks and some small farms and the Woodbrook Native Plant Nursery.
In the Artondale area there are a number of schools, such as Kopachuck Middle school Gig Harbor High School, Harbor Christian High School and Voyager and Artondale Elementary Schools. There are also churches in the area.
For entertainment, you can drive 10-15 minutes to reach the bustling Uptown district with the luxury Galaxy Theatre, bowling, laser ta,g and other activities at Oceans ,5 or just shopping at the numerous retailers including Homegoods and Marshall’s.
A 15 minute drive will take you to historic downtown Gig Harbor with cute shops and lovely parks. This is a major destination for weekend boaters in Puget Sound.

Shopping
Artondale itself only has two retail establishments: The Historic Arletta Store, founded in 1903, epitomizes the neighborhood market. It’s services are listed as Groceries, good wine and beer, Ethanol free gasoline (a great spot for locals to gas up their collector cars) and fresh, local, grass fed beef.
The other establishment is Artondale Farm Store & Nursery in what for many years was the local “Grange Hall”. This local shop is billed as a full service farm stand and nursery specializing in culinary veggie, fruit and herb starts. Fresh seasonal produce grown on the nearby farm, pickles, jams, soap, candles and other locally made items.
As stated above it is not far to get to the busy retail district of Gig Harbor north with Costco, Target, Albertson’s and Home Depot just to name a few. This is about 6 miles and less than a 15 minute drive.
About the same distance, depending on where you are located in Artondale, will get you to Uptown where you will find retail shopping such as Ann Taylor Loft, Soma and J. Jill. You will also find the local Ace Hardware and big box stores like Khol’s.
There are plenty of grocery shopping options with Fred Meyer, Safeway, the upscale Metropolitan Market and local Harbor Greens.
Another 5 minutes away and you can be in charming, historic Downtown Gig Harbor with many quaint local shops and dining options.

Types of Properties
This area is mainly all single-family homes, but there is a great variety of sizes, eras and settings from private homes in the woods to creek front and beachfront properties. You will also find properties with waterfront and vista views. This really is a diverse area. One thing you will not find is apartment complexes or density housing.
There are some planned developments like Sylvia Lake but mostly these are custom homes built during various eras. there are also some acreage and agricultural properties.
