One of the biggest festivals of the year in Gig Harbor, it is going strong after 36+ years and draws 1,000s of attendees. This event is right in the heart of the beautiful waterfront district of downtown and is a high-quality Arts and Crafts show featuring juried artists from around the country. I am so proud of how Gig Harbor supports the local artists here.

What You Need to Know

This outdoor Art Festival takes place outside in mid July in the Downtown Waterfront District with 120+ artists and vendors, kids corner activity area and large Literary section featuring local authors, book illustrators and Poets.

This is a great day out in downtown that draws artists from around the country and visitors from the region. The festival features food booths and a live stage and live artist demos. You will find lots to see and large crowds.

Festival times are 10-6 on Saturday and 10-5 on Sunday.

Park free at the Fransiscan Medical Center and ride the free shuttle that departs every 15 minutes. Parking is very limited downtown and their are street closures.

The weather is usually hot by this time so wear sun protection and dress accordingly. Comfortable shoes are a must.

Why You Should Go

All the activities at this community event are free.

You will not only see great art but there is a live stage with local talent and delicious food trucks.

I’m impressed with this show because unlike many art shows, it is very competitive to get entry, with a jury committee judging who will be featured. The committee is made up of professional artists, art instructors, and gallery owners. This means you are going to see very high-quality artists on display and in demonstrations.

Artists interested in applying can do so here.

Some of the featured works include Paintings, pottery, textiles, ceramics, photography, yard art, glass, leather, wood, and more. Select artists will be doing live demonstrations and the kids get to participate in making arts and crafts in the kid’s corner.

Chalking the Harbor!

The event proceeds support the Peninsula Art League that hosts it. They also share the proceeds with the community through art shows, workshops, and community events throughout the year. Proceeds also are used for art-related scholarships for league members and local students.

The City of Gig Harbor is a sponsor of the event with a grant to offset the costs of hosting such a large production.

the Downtown Waterfront Alliance also sponsors a “Chalk the Harbor” fest. The public can participate in street chalk drawings throughout the weekend.
